Prerequisites: Instructor Approval

This course provides support for organizing and prioritizing study tasks. It is a productive classroom in which to complete school work, receive assistance with research and projects, and get individualized instruction according to IEP goals. Students are expected to work on assignments for academic courses, improve study skills and make progress towards meeting IEP goals. This class will require students to demonstrate progress towards proficiency in the following State of Oregon Career-Related Learning Standards: Personal Management, Problem Solving, Communication.

Functional Math (FACT)

This course provides instruction in discrete, foundational math skills to develop number sense and understanding of quantity. Areas of focus include identifying, ordering and labeling with numbers, determining monetary value, and basic calculator use. Instruction is provided by a special education teacher in a small group setting.

Functional Language Arts (FACT)

This course provides instruction in discrete reading and  writing skills. Areas of focus include comprehending and analyzing leveled informational text and comprehension and identification of functional sight words. Text is primarily picture supported to support comprehension. Instruction is provided by a special education teacher in a small group setting.

Community Readiness (FACT)

This course provides instruction in employability, social and self-management skills.  Community access, including informational interview and community resource exploration is a component in addition to the operation of school-based business(s).  Instruction is provided by a special education teacher in a small group setting.

Students will develop interpersonal, self-management, workplace readiness, self-advocacy, and healthy living skills essential for navigating adult living as independently as possible.

Independent Living Skills Planning Class (ILS)

Prerequisites: Recommendation from IEP team.

This class will focus on functional real world academics. Students will obtain a variety of skills in planning their high school experience, reading, writing, mathematics, communication, and social skills. This course serves students with moderate to severe disabilities who have Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

Professional Trades Elective (ILS)

Course provides students with foundational knowledge and skills to make effective decisions, use career information and manage career plans. In addition to career planning, the course of study includes both contemporary and emerging technological resources as applied to specific industry sector, as well as appropriate problem-solving strategies and critical thinking skills for work -related issues and tasks.

 

Applied Math

Applied Math reinforces general math skills, extending those skills to include some pre-algebra and algebra topics, and uses these skills in a variety of practical, consumer, business, and occupational applications. Course topics typically include rational numbers, measurement, basic statistics, ratio and proportion, basic geometry, formulas and simple equations.

Applied English and Communications

Applied English and Communication class is designed to assist students that take extended assessments and are working toward a modified diploma access to foundational language arts knowledge. This is class is designed to be repeated for additional credit.

Unified Sports

Unified Sports is a special olympics class that thrives on an inclusive environment. Students will not only receive PE credit but also have the opportunity to play in Soccer, Basketball and Softball tournaments. Students of all abilities are encouraged to sign up for this opportunity to have fun and compete with others around the state.
